A hike of many elevation changes straddles the east slopes of Mont Lozère, passing on forest tracks through the diverse state forest of Malmontet which, it is said, contains a sweet chestnut tree at record altitude : 1,405 m.

    Many species...

    This prospering and diverse forest boasts many ground animal species, such as large mammals, especially deer. Its trees play host to numerous birds, including diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey: buzzards, sparrowhawks and owls. Woodpeckers and passerine birds live on the edge of the forest. Some species are uncommon and even threatened, such as the Eurasian goshawk.

  2. “Lavoir”,
  3. “Le rocher des Fées”, go right to “Rocher Communal” via :
  4. “La Lozère”,
  5. "Longuefeuille",
  6. “Rocher Communal”. Then return to “Concoules” via :
  7. “Les Besses”, then “Le rocher des Fées”, “Lavoir”, “Cimetière”.
